I Can also recommend UK author Aliette de Bodard, with many shorts stories in SF and fantasy novels with fallen Angels. I'm also a absolute fan of Frances Hardinge, an UK author too, dark fantasy stories mostly for children, but far from many tropes of the genre. Both have great worldbuilding and great female characters
